The chappie concept originated in 1994 through the creativity of groovisions. Characterized by its simple form—a straight-standing body—chappie can be customized to represent any individual by adjusting features such as hairstyle, clothing, skin tone, and eye color. The design transcends traditional boundaries of age, gender, and race. Additionally, the app follows specific guidelines for displaying multiple chappies together in one plane.

Since its inception as computer data, chappie has evolved into an iconic figure within brand campaigns. The character made its first appearance as a life-sized mannequin in 1997 and transitioned into a musical artist with releases under Sony Music Entertainment in 1999, which included three singles and one album. Today, chappie continues to engage audiences as a representative for various companies and educational institutions.
